This special guided tour is dedicated to the archaeological traces of mining at the Schneeberg. On site, historical mining structures and remains of everyday working life will be explained and placed in their historical context, with a focus on their significance for the study of mining history.

The expert
Claus-Stephan Holdermann
Claus-Stephan Holdermann has worked in archaeology since 1997, combining archaeology, geoarchaeology and project management in his professional practice. He studied at the universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg and Tübingen, with a focus on prehistory and early history, Quaternary ecology, geology and palaeontology.
His academic interests range from prehistory, especially the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic, to the Bronze and Iron Ages, as well as mining archaeology and archaeotechnology, with a particular focus on metallurgy. He also works on landscape use, mobility and Holocene environmental development.
He has held teaching and research positions at several universities and institutions, including Cologne and Innsbruck and the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He regularly publishes on high mountain archaeology and mining history.
