Indicator plants

Reading plants - Geobotanical indicators at the Schneeberg

19th September

Special guided tour with Thomas Wilhalm

This special guided tour focuses on the remarkable flora of the Schneeberg. The tour centres on metallophile plants and geobotanical indicators, species that indicate metal-rich soils and are therefore also known as indicator plants. In cooperation with the South Tyrol Museum of Nature, selected species will be presented, including alpine toadflax, alpine sandwort, one-flowered mouse-ear chickweed and purple saxifrage. Participants will learn what these plants reveal about soil, site and habitat, and how closely alpine vegetation, geology and mining history are connected.
