Specialist library

The specialist library

The specialist library of the South Tyrol Mining Museum is a true treasure trove for anyone interested in the history and technology of mining and in mineral resources. Several thousand titles cover a wide range of topics: from the mining history of Tyrol, Trentino, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and France to regions in Eastern and Northern Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Particular emphasis is placed on local geology. Works on minerals such as lead, silver, zinc, copper, iron, salt, coal, mercury and gemstones form a central focus. The holdings are supplemented by literature on underground and open-pit mining, ore processing, geology, museology and Tyrolensia. Various volumes of specialised mining journals are also part of the collection.
At present, the library’s holdings, previously distributed across different locations, are being brought together at the museum’s headquarters in Brixen, reorganised and systematically catalogued.
The library is available to external users for scholarly research, but consultation is only possible on site. Borrowing is not permitted. The collection is continuously expanded and updated.
