Bobbin Lace in the World
Through colonialism, bobbin lace made its way from Great Britain and France to the whole the world. The spools (bobbins) do not look the same everywhere. Depending on the region, they can be made out of different materials. Most of them are turned from different types of wood and have different shapes. Depending of the lace and the thickness of the yarn they can be larger or smaller. We differentiate between bobbins with sheath (hooded bobbins) and bobbins without sheath.
